Frequently Asked Questions
What counts as controlled-environment research?
Any work where temperature, light, humidity or CO₂ must be held at defined values: insect and Drosophila rearing, nematode and yeast work, BOD and general incubation, low-temperature studies and climate-change simulations.
Which chamber suits Drosophila?
Percival DR-36 and DR-41 chambers, with a coating that protects components from the acidic fly-rearing environment and additive humidity as standard, or the thermoelectric TE-36VL. See Drosophila and insect chambers.
What is the difference between NL, LL and VL incubators?
NL has no light; LL has horizontal shelf lighting; VL has vertical lighting on the side walls; LLVL combines both. Choose by whether your organisms need light and how vessels are arranged.
Can a chamber simulate climate-change conditions?
Yes. Chambers with the IntellusUltra controller can run WeatherEze simulations of real-time, historical and climate-change weather, and CO₂ control is available for elevated-CO₂ studies.
Do you supply CO₂ incubators?
Yes. The Percival B-36 and B-3600 CO₂ incubators control CO₂ up to 10%, and the B-3600 adds humidity control up to 70% at 30 °C.
Can you build a room for this work?
Yes. Walk-in rooms are built to any size for incubation, insect rearing and controlled temperature and humidity. See walk-in growth rooms.
